The Schweizerische Chopin-Gesellschaft in
Basel, founded in 1996 by the pianist Alicja Masan, is a
registered association with manifold acitivities that is
well-established in Switzerland.
Many events can be mentioned. It is our
constant endeavour to offer a multi-faceted program with
performances of a high standard. The band width reaches from
master recitals of renowned pianists like Elisabeth Leonskaya,
Krystian Zimerman, Oleg Maisenberg, Yundi Li, Rudolf
Buchbinder to many other, meanwhile widely celebrated
pianists like Sol Gabeta,
Mihaela Ursuleasa, Martin Helmchen, Kiril Gerstein, Antti
Siiralla. Other instrumentalists and ensembles in various
formations have given guest performances: Ivan Monighetti, Antonio Meneses, Hansheinz Schneeberger,
Peter-Lukas Graf, Brigitte Fournier, Adam Taubitz, the Aria
Quartet, the Erato Quartet and many more.
The
Chopin Society also organises
interpretation courses... The Summer academy directed by the
world-famous Russian piano pedagogue Lev Naumov and the
master courses with professor Bernard Ringeissen or
professor Andrzej Jasinski were quite successful.
In 1998 we realised a particular
project: the Chopin Marathon. Pianists, pedagogues
and students from Switzerland and abroad filled a nonstop 8
hours program presented to a changing audience. The stream
of visitors and the response were enormous.
Another special event was the
„Chopin Festival 1999“. One week full of activities
around Chopin's work and his life: lectures, commented
recitals and the scenic performance of "My Angels" (from the
correspondence between Frédéric Chopin and George Sand).
To mark our 10
year jubilee in 2006 we arranged the
„Basler Chopin Tage" (Basle Chopin
days). The wide range of presentations went from concerts to
the play "Zal" - a homage to Frédéric Chopin - and a dancing
class with folk dances from Chopin's home country (Mazurka
and Polonaise).
In addition to
the already well established "Podium für junge Künstler"
(podium for young artists) we started a new series themed
"Junge Talente aus der Region stellen sich vor"
(presentation of young talents from the region) two years
ago.
We are constantly striving to further talented youngsters.
We attach great importance to our "Aprčs concerts"
with dinner together with the artists. Members of our
society also estimate our culture and adventure tours
"Auf Chopins Spuren" (on Chopin's traces) on which not
only the "musical" but also the "social life" is cultivated.
Since many musicians and artists are members of our society,
we also organize yearly meetings, on which works from
different art categories are presented.
For the
season of 2008/09 another interesting master course with
the world-famous Russian pianist and piano pedagogue
Dmitri
Bashkirov can be announced.
